23 December 2015

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has published the written submissions for the public hearing into Victorian state run youth training and reception centres.

The hearing, which was held from 17 – 28 August this year in Melbourne, inquired into the experiences of former child residents at Turana Youth Training Centre, Winlaton Youth Training Centre and Baltara Reception Centre between the 1960s and early 1990s.

The hearing inquired into the response of these organisations and their staff members to child sexual abuse of former child residents during this period. It also inquired into past and current policies and procedures of Victoria Police and the Department of Human Services and Health Victoria (and its predecessors).

The Royal Commission heard from former residents and employees of Turana, Winlaton and Baltara, the Assistant Commissioner of Victoria Police and the Chief Information Officer and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
