Royal Commission to hold forum for deaf and hard of hearing
People who are deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing are invited to attend a community information session in Parramatta on Monday 4 August 2014, to find out more about the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The national event will feature live captions and Auslan interpreters, and will also be webcast.
Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald will explain the work of the Royal Commission and answer questions from the community.
Royal Commission CEO Philip Reed said the community information session provides an opportunity for people who are deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing to find out more about the Royal Commission and how they can be involved.
“We particularly encourage people who have experienced child sexual abuse while in the care of an institution to attend the community information session, or watch the live webcast,” Mr Reed said.
“You will not be required to discuss your personal story at the event, it will be a chance to find out more about our work and how you can be involved.
“We will explain how you can register to share your story in a private session and what support services are available to you."
