The needs of specific populations

The Royal Commission is looking into specific populations who may be at heightened risk of abuse or face additional barriers to an effective response.

Our aim is to ensure our recommendations take into account the full range of children’s circumstances and the obstacles they may face within the service system.

Policy work in this area builds upon extensive engagement with these populations to increase awareness of the work of the Royal Commission. It includes analysis of evidence brought forward in private sessions and public hearings, targeted consultations with key stakeholders, submissions to issues papers, community forums, Commissioner-led roundtables and accessing expert advice.

Information before the Royal Commission highlights the following populations for specific policy consideration:

  • People with disability
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
