Forum for people with disability in Melbourne

The disability community will gather in Melbourne later this month to find out more about the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Royal Commission CEO Philip Reed said the Royal Commission wants to make sure people with disability are able to share their experiences with a Commissioner.

"The Royal Commission is aware that many people with disability have experienced child sexual abuse while in the care of an institution," Mr Reed said.

"We are determined that people with disability can participate in the process of the Royal Commission."

"We have previously held forums for people with disability in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Tasmania, with two events also planned for Sydney in August."

Commissioner Justice Coate will address the Melbourne forum to provide an overview of the Royal Commission and answer questions from the audience. Auslan interpreters will be available.

"You will not be required to discuss your personal story at the forum, it is a chance to find out more about the work of the Royal Commission and how you can share your story," Mr Reed said.

"Families, support services and disability advocates are also invited to attend."
